May in Atlanta is the sweet spot — warm enough for patios and rooftops, not yet hot enough to regret every outdoor plan by 2pm. The city fills up with events this month, and the quality is genuinely high. Here are ten things worth your time, your money, and your Saturday.
1. Tyler, the Creator — State Farm Arena (May 10)
The Chromakopia tour hits Atlanta, and if you've seen Tyler live before, you know this isn't a concert — it's a full production. Custom stage design, choreography, and a setlist that pulls from the entire catalog. State Farm Arena is the right-sized venue for this: big enough for the spectacle, contained enough that the energy doesn't dissipate. Tickets are moving, but resale for upper-level seats is still in the $85-$120 range. Floor seats are $250+ and climbing.
When: Saturday, May 10, doors at 7pm. Where: State Farm Arena. Cost: $85-$350+.
2. Grand Opening: Nori Omakase — Westside Provisions (May 3)
Westside Provisions gets its first dedicated omakase bar this month, and the buzz is justified. Chef Takeshi Morimura (formerly of Umi and Nobu) is running a 16-seat counter with a 14-course menu that changes nightly based on what his fish broker in Tokyo ships that morning. Reservations opened two weeks ago and the first month sold out in 72 hours. May walk-in seats are released daily at 4pm via Resy — set your alarm.
When: Opening weekend May 3-4, then Wednesday-Sunday. Where: Westside Provisions District. Cost: $185/person (before drinks).
3. "After Hours" Group Show — Wish Gallery, Castleberry Hill (May 9-31)
Wish Gallery is hosting a group show featuring eight Atlanta-based artists working in large-format photography, mixed media, and neon. The opening reception on May 9 (7-10pm) is the event — free admission, open bar for the first hour, and a live DJ set on the gallery floor. Castleberry Hill's First Friday energy has been building all year, and this show is shaping up to be the best one yet. Multiple pieces will be available for purchase under $2,000, which is rare for the quality on display.
When: Opening reception May 9, 7-10pm; show runs through May 31. Where: Wish Gallery, Castleberry Hill. Cost: Free.
4. Rooftop Social: Peachtree Club Spring Series (May 17)
The Peachtree Club's rooftop event series kicks off May 17 with a sunset party featuring a live house DJ, craft cocktail bar, and light bites from their culinary team. The view from the 25th floor — downtown skyline, Midtown towers, Stone Mountain on a clear day — is legitimately one of the best in the city. Dress code is smart casual (no sneakers, no shorts). This is the kind of event where you show up looking sharp and leave with a contact list worth having.
When: Saturday, May 17, 6-11pm. Where: The Peachtree Club, Downtown. Cost: $45 (includes one drink).
5. Freedom Farmers Market (Every Saturday)
If you're not hitting Freedom Farmers Market at the Carter Center on Saturday mornings, you're missing one of the best weekly rituals in Atlanta. Seasonal produce from farms within 100 miles, pastured meats, fresh bread, local honey, and a prepared food section that's better than most brunch restaurants. The May produce lineup is peak: strawberries, snap peas, spring onions, radishes, and the first of the summer tomatoes. Get there by 9am — the best vendors sell out by 11.
When: Every Saturday, 8:30am-12pm. Where: Carter Center parking lot. Cost: Free entry; bring cash (some vendors are cash-only).
6. Mark Normand Live — Tabernacle (May 23)
Mark Normand is the hardest-working comedian in the game right now — five specials in three years, and each one is tighter than the last. His Tabernacle date will sell out (it always does in Atlanta), and the venue is one of the best comedy rooms in the Southeast when it's configured for standup. General admission standing, so arrive early for a good sightline. The balcony seats are reserved and worth the upgrade if you don't want to stand for 90 minutes.
When: Friday, May 23, 8pm. Where: The Tabernacle. Cost: $35-$55.
7. Atlanta United vs. Inter Miami — Mercedes-Benz Stadium (May 24)
Messi in Atlanta. That's the entire pitch. Inter Miami comes to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a regular-season match, but nothing about this game will feel regular. The Five Stripes faithful will pack the lower bowl, and the atmosphere when Atlanta United hosts marquee opponents in this building is still one of the best spectator experiences in American sports. Tickets will be inflated — expect $80-$200 for decent seats — but the experience is worth the premium at least once.
When: Saturday, May 24, 7:30pm. Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Cost: $80-$250.
8. Stone Mountain Summit Sunrise Hike (May 4 or May 18)
The summit trail at Stone Mountain opens at 5am, and a May sunrise hike is one of the best free activities in metro Atlanta. The 1.3-mile Walk Up Trail gains 786 feet of elevation — it's steep enough to earn the view and short enough that you're at the top in 40 minutes. Sunrise in early May is around 6:45am, which means a 5:30am start puts you at the summit with 15 minutes to spare. Bring a headlamp for the first half-mile and a thermos of coffee for the top. The 360-degree view at dawn — downtown skyline to the west, the Appalachian foothills to the north — is Atlanta's best-kept secret from people who only visit the base.
When: Any morning, but weekends at sunrise are special. Where: Stone Mountain Park (parking $20/vehicle). Cost: Free beyond parking.
9. Atlanta Food & Wine Festival — Historic Fourth Ward Park (May 16-18)
The annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival returns to Historic Fourth Ward Park with three days of chef demos, tasting tents, wine and spirits seminars, and some of the best bites from restaurants across the Southeast. The Friday evening Tasting Tent is the main event — 50+ restaurants pouring and plating in a walkable outdoor format. Saturday and Sunday feature ticketed masterclasses (the whiskey blending class sells out every year). General admission gets you access to the tasting tent; VIP adds a private lounge with premium pours and early entry.
When: May 16-18 (Friday 6-10pm, Saturday-Sunday 12-6pm). Where: Historic Fourth Ward Park. Cost: $65 GA, $125 VIP (per session).
10. STACKED Sneaker Pop-Up — Ponce City Market (May 31-June 1)
STACKED brings its traveling sneaker and streetwear pop-up to Ponce City Market's Central Food Hall annex for one weekend only. Expect 30+ vendors selling rare kicks, vintage streetwear, and limited drops from local Atlanta brands. Past events have pulled pairs ranging from OG Jordan 1 Chicagos to unreleased samples. Even if you're not buying, the curation and the crowd-watching are worth the trip. Kids under 12 free.
When: Saturday-Sunday, May 31-June 1, 11am-7pm. Where: Ponce City Market. Cost: $15 entry, free for kids under 12.
May is the month Atlanta earns its reputation. The weather cooperates, the calendar fills up, and the city comes alive in a way that the other eleven months just hint at. Pick three things from this list, put them on your calendar now, and thank me later.
